Perhaps Ubisoft is planning on bringing the valiant agent to his former glory now that the Metal Gear Solid series has reached its conclusion (at least until Konami achieves a Deus Ex Machina)
Splinter cell e3 2018 Pc#
It’s no secret that the once active agent who has had numerous games on the previous generation consoles and on the pc has gone under for an extended period with a long absence from the current generation consoles and pc. It's not impossible for Ubisoft to create a blockbuster Splinter Cell, but why would they devote resources to it when The Division and Watchdogs are getting more press? If anything, Ubisoft's continuous investment into an online sandbox world will only lay foundation for a proper Splinter Cell entry. There is also the screenshot below which further suggests E3 and this could be the PC version being listed: Image courtesy of HurtPotato on Reddit

Just look at how they neutered Rainbow Six Patriots and emphasized the multiplayer instead. The creative talent at Ubisoft has migrated towards these newer IP's, and away from the outdated Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six games. Look at the latest trailers from The Division, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs. Blacklist understood the lack of plot and tried making it better, but used cliched terrorist reasoning (oh! he wanted to be caught!) Conviction only rebooted the gameplay/atmosphere but left the franchise with a poor story. They haven't had any good writing for this since Chaos Theory. It's my personal theory that Ubisoft has found the Splinter Cell a dead IP. Lots of fun, but I honestly can't member a single line of dialogue from Blacklist, and only remember one or two levels. Now? It feels like a top 40 countdown and cheap beer. It was a thoughtful, well-paced experience. In short, SC used to be a game that went perfectly with slow jazz and expensive scotch. The locations became exotic (much like the characters). Now Sam is sneaking into ultra-secret James Bond style compounds, bustling terrorist camps in the middle of the day and bombastic warzone washed in " Modern Military Shooter Brown".

The settings were their own characters, and SC captured perfectly the feeling of sneaking in to somewhere you didn't belong. Inky blackness and moody electronic music drenching everything, these were places we could relate to - had been to in real life. You snuck into banks and embassies and neighborhoods and apartment buildings and police stations, silently rappelling in as the sun sets over an urban landscape. SC used to have a real sense of place and presence. Now Sam dashes past groups of 8-10 highly trained soldiers at a time, all with the knowledge that if things go south, you can easily best them in a firefight. You were outnumbered and 2- 3 security guards were a challenge and needed to be handled in a thoughtful way if you wanted to remain un-seen and alive. SC used to be a game where where 3 armed people with flashlights were terrifying (as they would be in real life). Now he spouts one-liners and hurts people seemingly at random. He used to have a sense of humor and a realistic way of dealing with tension. Now he's an action hero with socipathic tendencies and anger issues who can't work on a team. Sam Fisher used to be a character with qualities you wanted to emulate, the kind of guy you wanted to sit down and have a beer with.
